Juan Diaz and boxing

Last Saturday in Illinois, lightweight Juan Diaz stayed unbeaten with a win against Julio Diaz. The "Baby Bull", who is now 33-0 continues to be impressive. He added the IBF title to the WBA and WBO belts he already holds.

Diaz continues to improve in the ring, he wears opponents down and he's a smart fighter in the ring. Sadly, he is not as popular as he should be. The University of Houston student, does things the right way in terms living his life on the right side and preparing earnestly for every opponent.

The 2000 Olympian has already defeated several top flight lightweights, including Julio Diaz and Acelino Frietas.

So what's next for Juan Diaz? A possible showdown with Michael Katsidis, maybe a meeting with Joel Casamayor or maybe a future date with Manny Pacquiao.

Either way, Juan Diaz has set himself up well for the future. I'd say he'd be the favorite in fights with Casamayor and Katsidis, but he'd be the underdog against Pacquiao.

The Pacquiao fight would be interesting in many ways. Pacquiao would bring his speed and power up to the lightweight division and he would be taking on a fighter in Juan Diaz, who is in his prime.

Diaz, with his aggression and ability to be patient in the ring and wait for the kill, would give the great Pacquiao a serious challenge, moreso than his recent fights with Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales.

Either way, Juan Diaz has plenty of options, but the one with the most visibility is the fight with Pacquiao. Hopefully, that happens within the next year.
