High School Volleyball update

Pool play took place on Wednesday at the high school state volleyball tournament and it turned out to be a solid day for area teams in District 3-5A

No. 2 Gadsden went 6-0 and advances to a Thursday night quarterfinal matchup against No. 9 Cibola or No. 6 Clovis.

No.7 Mayfield went 5-1 in pool play and has to play a first round match against No. 8 Sandia at 1:15 on Thursday afternoon.

No. 3 Las Cruces High got a first round bye and will play Thursdsay evening at 6:45 p.m. vs. No. 5 La Cueva or No. 12 Gallup.

No. 1 Rio Rancho and No. 10 Alamogordo also got first round byes. Thursday's quarterfinal matchups are at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho. Friday's semifinals and Saturday's finals are at Johnson Center in Albuquerque.

In Class 3A, No. 4 Hatch Valley plays Thursday at 5 p.m. vs. Portales or Cuba and in 2A, Mesilla Valley Christian takes on Rheoboth at 6:45 p.m. at Johnson Center on the University of New Mexico campus.
