The Triple Crown run is now over for Mine That Bird. The 3-year-old gelding, who ran twice at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino and who was training at the track, won the Kentucky Derby, ran second in the Preakness and was in the lead in the Belmont before tiring and finishing third.
What a run it was for Mine That Bird, who ran second and fourth in races at Sunland park. He improved and matured a great deal during his Triple Crown run under trainer Chip Woolley.
Mine That Bird really didn't have a bad race during the three races and now he can take a break. He may run in something small before the Breeders' Cup Classic in November. But he to be considered one of the favorites to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. Not bad for a horse who was originally purchased for $9,500.

Truly amazing is what I think. And it re-sparked my interest in the sport. Will be out at Sunland a few times next season.
Sorry its a late post Felix but what did you think about Borel switching over to Rachel Alexandra? I remember how so many people talked about him getting his own place in history by becoming the first jockey to win all three races with different horses. It seemed selfish to me though. I mean he placed himself above the sport and ran against the horse that had the chance of winning the Triple Crown. I still dont understand why a jockey would want to challenge the horse that he won the Derby with. Clarify?

Hey Anonymous. Good question on Calvin. Borel is a regular rider on Rachel Alexandra and felt compelled to ride the horse, even at the expense of losing a ride on the Kentucky Derby winner. And I'm sure winning the Triple Crown on different horses may have been a factor. But Borel had his reasons and it paid off for him in some ways. thanks for the post.
