New Mexico junior middleweight prospect Joaquin Zamora has been in Las Cruces sparring with Siju Shabazz and Abie Han in preparation for his 10-round fight with Jose Luis Gonzales next Friday in Rio Rancho.
Zamora, who has ties to Las Cruces, resides in Pecos. He defeated Ray Sanchez Jr., by knoickout earlier this year up north.
Zamora is 16-2 with 11 knockouts and said training is going well for the fight. He sparred with Austin Trout prior to his win against Sanchez. Zamora's fight will be part of a Telefutura-televised card in which Las Cruces fighters Sammy DiPace and Ricky Vasquez will also fight.
Han, who hails from El Paso, gave Zamora fits on Wednesday during their seven round. Han is 2-0 as a pro. He landed good combinations.
Zamora is a southpaw with decent power and a good skill level. He'll need to be a bit sharper on defense against Gonzales, but he appears to be in good shape headed into the bout.

I've said it a million times Abe Han is a champ, he'll take out Joaquin, Austin and a fight with Escalante is the only fight he couldn't win
