Onate High baseball players Joe Koerper and Randy Montoya will sign their national letters of intent with New Mexico State on Monday at 3 p.m. at Onate High School.
It's a big day for both of these young men, who have played an integral part in the success of the program on the Class 5A level. The Knights made it to the Class 5A semifinals in 2007, losing to Rio Rancho. In May of this year, the Knights made it to the finals where they lost a heartbreaker to La Cueva.
Koerper and Montoya are solid players and have bright futures ahead of themselves as long as they both continue to work hard and improve. Montoya is a good infielder and pitcher and Koerper has the potential to be a solid hitter at the next level with his bat.
I believe both have upside to their game, the question will be how do they adjust to the college game. Part of that is contingent on continued improvement and part of it will be how they adjust to NMSU's coaching style.
But both love the game, have played a lot of baseball in their career and Monday will be a big day for the two kids and it's great to see two good kids getting a chance to further their athletic career.
