Welterweight Miguel Cotto returns to the ring on Saturday night in New York when he takes on Michael Jennings for the vacant World Boxing Organization title.
It's a big fight for the 28-year-old Cotto, who is coming off of his first career loss last summer vs. Antonio Margarito.
Cotto talked to several members of the media last week and he feels strong entering the fight against the relative unknown Jennings.
"I don't feel any extra pressure coming into this fight," Cotto said. "I'm just prepared to win. It was not difficult to get back into the gym, that last fight was a great fight one against Margarito. I'm hungry to win again. My career was going good before that loss. I want to get back to that elite level."
Cotto has had a solid career in the sport, beating the likes of Carlos Quintana, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley. Mosely just handed Margarito a loss last month.
Cotto was expected to fight Margarito in a rematch this summer, but that looks unlikely after Margarito was banned for a year last month by the California State Athletic Commission because his trainer was putting illegal hand wraps on his hands prior to the Mosley fight.
Assuming Cotto defeats Jennings, a rematch with Mosley could be in the works, but there was no commitment from Cotto or his promoter Bob Arum.
Cotto should beat Jennings on Saturday and this boxing fan would love to see Cotto/Mosley II. The first fight was entertaining and I believe there would be more interest now in that fight after Mosley handled Margarito so easily.
