NMSU football, first spring scrimmage

Just a few thoughts on the first spring football scrimmage for the New Mexico State Aggies football team, which was held April 9.

The team is going to be a much better tackling team. In years past, the Aggies were hurt by missed tackles, which kept drives going and thus keep the defense on the field too long.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Trevor Walls is making strides. He had a fair scrimmage on Thursday and while he's by no means the No. 1 starter right now, he will battle JUCO Jeff Fleming for that spot. It should be an interesting two weeks of spring practice to see which quarterback makes some strides.

Also head coach DeWayne Walker wants to see improvement in his place kicking. He likes Kyle Hughes as the punter, but Hughes will have to battle to keep his place kicking spot with Jordan Davenport and Collin Lund.

Being from Trevor Walls' hometown, give him some time and he won't let you guys down. Great kid. I would like to know if they will streamline the spring game on the internet. A lot of us here in Waverly,Ohio would like to see it. Good luck to the Aggies. I have never rooted against my beloved Buckeyes, but come October, Waverly, Ohio will be supporting the Aggies. You can count on it.

I'm also from Trevor's hometown and can safely say he won't disappoint.Coach Walker will quickly realize his ability to lead, make great decisions, and survey the field. I'm a little biased, but the best high school QB I ever watched play. The kid led several comebacks in his HS career including 2 huge playoff comeback wins.

We've been telling people, you guys will be very happy with big Trevor Walls. My father has coached sports(basketball) at Waverly for 33yrs, he says Trevor was the most coachable kid he's had. He never makes the same mistake twice.

I am Amazed at how much the people from Waverly have taken an interest in our program in the last year. Great to see that this kid has such a loyal following.

The Waverly community is crazy about Trevor. A humble, but extremely competitive young man. I too will be wearing crimson instead of scarlet and grey on 10-31-09!

Just letting you know that Waverly Ohio is AGGIE EAST!
No matter what turns out in the spring, do not be surprised to Trevor be the man during the season. The kid is something special and has the tools and work ethic and desire and the smarts to take the Aggies to a Bowl soem day soon.
Come October 31st I promise you Aggies that you will see Southern Ohio put on a Show at the Shoe for the Aggies!
