In April, unbeaten Joe Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins at 175-pounds. Before that, he was the 168-pound king, beating the likes of Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler.
Now, the 36-year-old wants to finish his career fighting American Roy Jones, an owner of world titles in four different weight classes.
But Jones hasn't been the same in recent years, suffering losses to Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver. Still, a Calzaghe/Jones fight is intriguing. It would be a battle of the two best fighters in their weight classes in the past two decades.
Right now, Calzaghe is at his best. He is a tough fighter with great skill. He had to come off the canvas to beat Hopkins and he might just be too much for Jones. Jones is still better than most fighters, but he has slowed down some and that might be a dangerous situation for him against Calzaghe.
Still, Jones and Calzaghe are two great fighters and it would be a good fight. But Calazghe could have fought middleweight king Kelly Pavlik or someone else from America. But it appears he wants to go out with a bang and for him it appears it can't get bigger than Jones.
