Aggies/Lobos week heats up

There are several intriguing story lines in the New Mexico/New Mexico State matchup, which takes place on Saturday night at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

One of them will be UNM's offense against the Aggie defense. Now that UNM quarterback Donovan Porterie is out the year, the brunt of the QB duties for the Lobos falls on redshirt freshman Brad Gruner. Gruner has played in two games this year and has been described as having a good arm and he can run the option.

The Lobos were probably going to run the ball a great deal anyway with backs Rodney Ferguson and Paul Baker. But with a redshirt freshman under center, I would guess they will run more. Ferguson is a load and Baker is capable as well.

New Mexico State has struggled against the run in two games and it will have to be better on Saturday night against the Lobos.

The Lobos will want to try and burn time off the clock and limit NMSU's possessions on offense. The Aggies need to create turnovers and force several three and outs.

NMSU will have to jump on them early and force them to throw the ball more than they want to.

The biggest question here is, NMSU ready to brake the mental hurdle of never beaten the lobos?

Mumme and all of the current roster are 0-3.
It would be nice if the Seniors could get a sweep of both rivals this year.

NMSU had not won in the Sun Bowl since 1994 and got a gutsy win this past weekend.
This could be a a special season but, NMSU needs to play smart in order to get it's first win and sweep over UNM and Utep since 2002!!

Go Aggies!
