Mayfield/Onate Football

No. 1 Mayfield gets a big test on Friday night against No. 4 Onate at the Field of Dreams at 7 p.m.

Mayfield has been consistent all season and has been very good on the ground with Brandon Betancourt and on defense as well.

Onate has gotten better as the season has gone along and is playing really confident right now on both sides of the ball.

OHS will need to control the clock with its running game and if it can do that, has a chance.
Mayfield needs to throw the ball effectively to win.

Mayfield has the experience in big games and that will play out. The Trojans win 24-16.

Got the 24 part right. I thought it's be 21-6. Little did I know that Onate couldn't block Mayfield up front.

MHS, hurry up offense to start the game, great move. OHS was confused on defense. MHS, lined up 9-10 in the box, pretty effective, stopped the run. OHS in the 2nd Q came out of their base offense went to a spread, moved the ball a bit but not enough. D line for MHS just too much for OHS. OHS will be fine just keep playing hard. You will represent well in playoffs.

Completely agree with your observations.
Mayfield coaching staff had a great game plan and the players executed it.
Onate will be hard to stop for most playoff teams. Could be a Las Cruces style championship if they seed right.
