This year's version of the New Mexico High School State Basketball Tournament has been one of the best in recent memory. There have been several close games and the attendance at the games have been tremendous.
Among the most exciting players to watch at the tournament for me have been Hobbs' Jeff Taylor, Albuquerque High's Emilio Andrade, Kirtland Central's Dayon Hall-Jones (girls hoops), Artesia's Derek Montoya, Clovis' Jaye Crockett and Mesilla Valley Christian's Zach Adams.
Andrade is a great shooter for the Bulldogs and helped them back to the state tournament for the first time in a decade, Crockett is a beast inside and has been a big reason the Wildcats are in the 5A boys final, Hall-Jones was a crowd pleaser during the three games she played because of her tenacity and big-play ability, Montoya is scorer plain and simple, Taylor is the state's most versatile player and Adams is one of the state's best passers and has the ability to make big shots at the most crucial times of a game.
