Finally the time has come for welterweights Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto to fight. The two will take part in the much-anticipated fight July 26 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Cotto is 32-0 and has beaten the likes of Shane Mosley, Zab Judah and Carlos Quintana. Margarito is 36-5 and has beaten Kermit Cintron and Joshua Clottey and lost a close decision to Paul Williams.
This is another great match between Mexican and Puerto Rican rivals. Cotto is great inside-fighter, who has improved his boxing skill in recent fights.
Margarito carries a big punch and whoever he fights has to always be aware of his knockout prowess.
Both are great champions and it's going to be a fight that is intriging to fight fans. Both carry heavy hands, both have good chins and both believe they are the best at what they do.
The winner surely will be regarded as the best welterweight in the world and will reap the consequences.
Margarito will come with both hands firing and he will surely try and get Cotto out early. The key for Cotto is try and frustrate Margarito and not let him have enough room to work.
The other welterweight bout of note is June 7 in Connecticut when Paul Williams faces off with Carlos Quintana in a rematch of their bout earlier this year. Quintana stunned some by knocking off the taller Williams to win the WBO welterweight bout.
Quintana fought an intelligent fight and simply outworked Wililams, who is known to outwork his opponents.
Again, the winner of this fight will put himself in a position for bigger things, perhaps a chance at the winner of the Margarito/Cotto fight.
Quintana will need to box smartly and Williams will need to use his reach and good jab to win.
