For the second straight season, the Onate Knights baseball team is headed to the semifinals of the Class 5A high school baseball tournament.
The third-seeded Knights rallied to beat No. 6 Carlsbad by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Lobo Field in Albuquerque.
Onate trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, but scored six times, the final four coming on a walk-off grand slam by senior Ariel Perez.
Abe Tarin picked up the win on the mound for OHS. The Knights are 21-8, Carlsbad end 21-8.
Meanhwhile, No. 7 Mayfield dropped an 11-1 decision to No. 2 and defending champ, Rio Rancho. The Rams scored six runs in the second and never looked back. Mayfield's season end at 20-9, while Rio Rancho is now 26-3 and will take on Onate on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Lobo Field.
