Jhonny Gonzalez/Daniel Ponce De Leon

Former bantamweight champ Jhonny Gonzalez, who has fought a handful of times in Juarez, could get another title shot early next year against Daniel Ponce De Leon.

The 26-year-old Gonzalez (35-6, 29 knockouts) won a 10-round decision against Jose Angel Beranza on Nov. 16 in Cicero, Ill.

Gonzalez lost his WBO bantamweight title to Gerry Penalosa on Aug. 11, when he was KO'd in the seventh. But the Mexican fighter is one of the most exciting in the lower weight divisions. He has been in wars with Penalosa, Israel Vasquez and Fernando Montiel.

The 27-year-old Ponce De Leon is currently 34-1 and holds the WBO 122-pound title.
