Jones wins award

Artesia High School quarterback Landry Jones won the NM Preps Mr. Football award on Saturday.

He finished with 250 points, ahead of Mayfield senior quarterback Matt Sandoval, who finished with 215 points.

Jones threw for 3,566 yards and helped lead the team to a 4A state football title. He is headed to play for the University of Oklahoma next fall.

Sandoval helped lead the Trojans to their third straight 5A championship, threw for more than 1,500 yards and rushed for 866 more.

Clovis running back Manuel Robles finished third in the running for the award, Mayfield RB/WR Nathan Enriquez was fourth and Manzano quarterback and Las Cruces High running back James Hall Jr. tied for fifth.
