Cruces High's win against Mayfield

Friday's Mayfield/Las Cruces High football game will go down in the books as one of the series' best finishes.

Las Cruces High was down 14-0 in the first half and 21-14 with less than five minutes left after a turnover and a Mayfield score.

But the Bulldawgs came up with some big plays when it needed to and took advantage of a huge Mayfield mistake to prevail 22-21.

The Trojans looked like they were going to win when they stopped running back James Hall Jr. on a two-point conversion run. But the Trojans were called for 12 men on the field, giving the Dawgs another chance and Hall scored for the final margin.

It was a huge victory for the Bulldawgs as they prepare for the state playoffs. They needed a tough game against a good team and they needed to show that they can perform for 48 minutes. It's been tough on LCHS all season because its had so many blowout wins. Friday's game proved it has what it takes to make a lengthy run in the 5A state playoffs.

Mayfield is a scary team in the playoffs because it runs the ball well, quarterback Austin Hooker is developing into a sound passer and the team still comes up with big plays.

That game was awesome. Both teams put on a show and I really enjoyed it.

Great game, the city should be proud of all 3 HS teams. FYI, the last two seasons in the sun news, the paper has run the scores of all games played between MHS and LCHS. In 1983 Mayfield beat Cruces by three touchdowns (the final was 34-13 I believe). The paper for at least 2 years now has Cruces winning that one 24-13. Please check your archives (sp?) and when the two schools meet again this year in the playoffs correct your mistake. Thank you!

Great game overall. Even though Cruces is the No. 1 seed, I still see Mayfield taking another state title. Cruces didn't impress me and Mayfield looks like a better team on both sides of the ball, even if they lost by 1 measly point.

Great game by both teams each one of them should represent Las Cruces well in the tournament. Well just read also how Onate didn't get in. ADIOS Kelly Mckee interesting on who will be Onates next coach.

where are all those onate fans that said mayfield would be taking third in district. someone said they would be 0-3 starting because they lost too many players and coaches. I thought this was suppose to be onates year.

Great game these KID'S played. My hats of to both MHS, & LCHS Football Team. You couldn't have asked for a great ball game. The only bad thing about the seedings is that there won't be a MHS vs. LCHS in the State Final. And I do believe, that one of these schools will win the Final. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs. MHS Fan.

Where's Onate????? They talked a lot of noise at the beggining of the season, along with the critics, that Mayfield wouldn't be a top 4 team. Just goes to show you, again, that it doesn't matter what coaches leave the MHS program. They just re-load and keep winning whether it's a State Title or not.

All you Mayfield people should be happy you have a great coach, because without Bradley you guys stink. Look at your records without a Bradley. As for Cruces enjoy this year, because you guys have nothing coming up.

its pretty funny how onate fans cry every year because they are from the outside looking in; unlike us bulldawgs and trojans. maybe u guys should drop down to 3-A so maybe u could win a couple games. maybe even playoffs huh?

oh that was a great comment about without bradley were mhs would be that was stupid look at the other schools without miller they were nothing and without mckee onate ruled this town. just goes to show another person showing there stupidity.

Unlike you Bulldawgs???
The Knights took "you Bulldawgs" to the woodshed their first year in 5A!
Enrollment is still significantly lower at Onate than it is at either of the other two schools. Don't count on being good for long. Things have a way of changing.

What goes around comes around.

Ok Onate fans the last thing you want to do is come on this blog and put down any of the two teams that are in the playoffs. Onates failures cannot be blamed on anyone but themselves. As soon as they realize that they will be a better team. Best thing to due at this point is shut up learn to be humble and start working on next season because thats all Onate has to look forward too.

You Onate fans are like your FB team. You guys can talk the talk but can't never walk the walk. Maybe you should go down a class with the enrollment you have. This stuff about what goes around comes around... will never happen until you get some discipline on your team. And that might be in a couple of years when this group leaves. No leadership. One person (Daugherty) cannot do it alone.

The article is "Cruces High's win against Mayfield". That is what we should all be commenting on. And not all the bashing between OHS, LCHS, and MHS. Sometimes your up, sometimes your down. All this pettyness needs to stop. The Cruces/Mayfield game was awesome! Both teams played fantastic and although the score reflected differently, there were no losers in this game. Both teams should be proud.
