Seth Smith leaving and kicker Ryan Jastram has good day

With the departure of junior running back Seth Smith (personal leave), where does that leave the NMSUn running back situation.

Tonny Glenn, Brandon Perez and Marquell Colston will likely get most of the carries now. If these three stay healthy and have a good season, then Smith's departure doesn't mean much. But if the Aggies suffer injuries or don't get the production expected, then Smith leaving will hurt.

New Mexico State head football coach has been high on Colston and Perez all through fall camp. Plus freshmen Donavan Roberts and Ronald Opetaia have been impressive at times.

Mumme said Tuesday that kicker Ryan Jastram has put himself in contention for place kicking duties with Kyle Hughes and Jordan Davenport. Jastram had a good day kicking on Tuesday, so keep an eye out for that battle as the season opener on Sept. 4 approaches.

Wo is the stronger kicker? Not strength wise, but who has better numbers? If Nicholls St. was tomorrow night, who would be the starter(s)?

Right now, it's a close call. Both Hughes and Davenport might kick, Hughes could be the punter.

Looks like the RB pool was pretty full. JUCO's don't come to ride the pine, thay come to play.

I can't blame Seth for leaving and I wish him him the best.
