New Jockeys

For you horse racing fans, it's a must to get out to Sunland Park Racetrack because of the solid jockey colony, which is arguably the best in the track's great history.

There are the usual solid jockeys like Ken Tohill and Joe Martinez on the thoroughbred side and Esgar Ramirez, Freddie Martinez and GR Carter on the quarter horse side.

But new riders such as Israel Ocampo, Luis Contreras, Alejandro Medellin and Antonio Castanon are making waves. Medeillin is successfull in both quarter horse races and thoroughbreds.

Each of the new riders have their own attributes, but the key attribute that each have is that all of them have a knack for making key moves when the timing is right. The race for the riding title should be over the next three months. The new competition also makes for better races and could make for good odds.

If you like to see good jockeys perform head out to Sunland Park on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Post time for now is 12:15 p.m.
