Las Cruces High follow up

Las Cruces High's win against Eldorado on Saturday afternoon in the Class 5A state football title game was impressive in many ways.

The Bulldawgs got a big effort from in all three phases of the game, they had to go on the road to beat a good team and it was a total team effort.

Las Cruces High finished 13-0 and that says a lot about this year's version of the Bulldawgs. They had to beat crosstown rival Mayfield twice this year. The Trojans had won three straight 5A titles entering the season. Las Cruces High also survived a scare from Manzano in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

Running back James Hall scored 28 touchdowns this year, one of the top five marks of all-time in the state and quarterback Dante Caro was one of the team's leaders when it mattered most.

This year's Bulldawgs might not have had the depth that maybe the 1999, 2000 and 2002 teams did, but this was certainly a fun team to watch over the course of this year and last year. The team went 23-2 in that time and could have easily won the two games they lost, which came in 2007 against Mayfield and Clovis.

This year's Bulldawgs football team had good chemistry, worked hard and was resillient.
